"By Her Fruits She Will Be Known"

This painting is my love letter to the faithful women in the scriptures whose stories are not told, but whose fruits are known in the rearing of faithful prophets, stripling warriors, and brave missionaries. Women who were martyrs, converts, and covenant keepers. Women who suffered unspeakable horrors for their faith, their families and their God. This painting depicts a singular woman who is representative of all the heroic women of the scriptures. She is shrouded in the shade, suggesting that she is unknown and hidden from the eyes of the world, and yet she is resolute and steadfast with her eyes fixed assuredly on the viewer, an eye single to the glory of God. Fruit bursts from the foliage around her representing the results of her efforts, a testimony to her diligence and a declaration that one day, by her fruits, she will be known.

Process Used: I used oil paint on linen canvas. This painting was done “alla prima” and was made possible thanks to a friend who agreed to model for me. As a Latina woman, I want to include more scriptural art with BIPOC representation and that was taken into consideration when choosing my model.
